In light of the recent Las Vegas shooting, I thought I’d share some ideas on fearless living. Now, I should preface this week’s podcast by stating that I’m not an expert at living fearlessly. However, it’s something that I’m making a conscious effort to do more and more each day.
These ideas are from a book that I’ve gotten a lot out of over the years. It based on the Buddhist philosophy of non-dualistic thinking, and how when employed can help us alleviate a lot of the suffering we experience as human beings living from a me vs. them mindset.
Here is the passage…
“Here are five specific suggestions [for fearless living in troubled times].
- Embrace oneness: Remember that we are one in consciousness. Every time you create a separation (through judgement), you create suffering — usually for yourself.
- Practice daily self-reflection: It is essential to find a way to quiet the ongoing mental chatter. We recommend some sort of daily meditation. Meditation really works — that’s why so many people do it.
- Practice compassion: Compassion is critical because you will notice that as you expand your awareness, there is no peace for you until there is peace for everyone. That’s why watching or reading the news causes so much pain.
- Participate in a sangha: The sangha is your spiritual community that allows you to give and receive love while participating in your spiritual practice. For peace of mind, it is essential to find a sangha. The three jewels of Buddhism are the Buddha (the teacher), the dharma (teachings), and the sangha (spiritual community).
- Reflect positive thinking: Surrender all judgement of others and yourself. Throughout the day, stay in touch with your own flow of loving awareness, which is who you are. Be in love, and don’t go to sleep with the television news.
Finally, if you can’t remember these practices, just remember the Buddhist prescription: empty, empty, happy, happy.” ~ Passage from the Book, The End of Suffering: Fearless Living in Troubled Times, by Russell Targ and J.J. Hurtak, Ph.D.

Quote of the Week:
Suffering, the Buddha taught, is caused when the freedom that is inherent to our nonlocal pristine awareness is obscured by the limitations of our ego and our physical body. We forget that we are pure awareness, residing only for a time as a physical body” ~ Russell Targ and J.J. Hurtak, Ph.D
