We’ve all had those days.
You know, the days when one or more things go wrong–or REALLY wrong.
When you make a mistake–or a REALLY BIG mistake.
Well first of all, you’re human, so that kinda comes with the experience.
No one get’s it right 100% of the time.
Second of all, winning in the game of life isn’t so much about what happens to you, it’s about how you feel about what happens to you.
So regardless of how bad your day was, or what happened to you…
…It’s imperative that you never go to sleep feeling defeated. Exhausted yes. But defeated never. EVER.
Why? Because the thoughts and feelings you entertain right before going to sleep make the biggest impression on your subconscious mind. And whatever you impress upon your subconscious mind will eventually show up in your experience.
Normally, your conscious mind acts as a gate-keeper, protecting your subconscious from being influenced by the myriad of thoughts you have about yourself, others, and the world at large throughout the day.
Now don’t get me wrong, these thoughts still impact your subconscious, but not nearly as much as when you’re in a sleepy, relaxed state, as you are just before falling to sleep.
I’ll be writing more about the power of feelings in future posts, but the essence of it is this.
How you feel about yourself and your future, as you’re drifting off to sleep impresses your subconscious mind in a BIG way.
So you never want to go to sleep feeling defeated. If you do, your impressing your subconscious mind with the idea of “I’m a loser in the game of life.”
Now I know the term loser here is a little harsh, but this is actually what’s going on inside your subconscious mind.
You want to go to sleep feeling like a champion–like a winner!
You want to go to sleep feeling empowered and on top of the world. Every night.
When you go to sleep feeling this way, you’re programming your subconscious mind to help you create more experiences that cause you to feel this way more often.
To help you turn those negative feelings around at the end of the day, here are my three favorite techniques to perform just before going to sleep.
1. Journal about your ideal circumstances, and the conditions you want to have in your life.
But don’t do this from your current state of mind.
Adopt the mindset of “I currently have these conditions in my life, and I’m lovin’ it!”
This means writing about your ideal circumstances in the present-tense.
It also means writing in vivid detail.
Use your imagination to transport yourself into your dream circumstances, and then just hang out there, writing about it and experiencing it.
2. Spend some serious time with your vision board. (Hopefully you have one!)
Use your imagination to step into the images.
Really get into the feeling of being, doing, and having the things and experiences your images represent.
Walk around in the images. Engage all your senses in the experience. Feel it. Smell it. Taste it. See it. Hear it. Make it real!
3. Review your past successes.
This is a powerful tool for tuning up depressed feelings.
Recall all the times when things went right for you, and think of how great you felt in those instances.
Include those times when someone gave you a sincere compliment that made you feel GREAT!
Everyone has had an experience (probably many) when they felt like they were on top of the world.
Recall how you felt at those times, and carry this feeling with you as you drift off to sleep.
And here’s another tip. Designate a section in your journal specifically for writing about these moments. This makes it easy for you to refer to them in the future. Add to this section as more great experiences happen to you.
So that’s it.
Those are my top three ways to go from feeling defeated at the end of the day, to feeling like a champion.
Give ’em a try, and let me know what you think.
