In this episode I share a simple two-step process you can use to design and live an extraordinary life.
The idea for this show came to me the other day as I was driving.
I was thinking about something Florence Scovel Shinn said, and that is; “Life is a game of giving and receiving.”
If you haven’t read any of her stuff, it’s all excellent — very practical and accessible.
Her most prominent work is titled, The Game of Life and How to Play it.
It’s a concise and practical book filled with great remedies to heal any aspect of your life by addressing the root cause — your consciousness.
It was published in 1925, and it is her most famous book.
For those of you not familiar with here work, she helped her clients dissolve troubling circumstances in their lives by prescribing powerful affirmations for them.
These consciousness cures are just as valuable today as they were when she was alive.
Here are some examples of her healing affirmations taken from the book, The Game of Life and how to Play it:
(For Right Work) – “I have a perfect work in a perfect way; I give perfect service for perfect pay.”
(For a productive day) – “Thy will be done this day! Today is a day of completion; I give thanks for this perfect day, miracle shall follow miracle and wonders shall never cease.”
(For designing and living an extraordinary life) – “Infinite Spirit, open the way for the Divine Design of my life to manifest; let the genius within me now be released; let me see clearly the perfect plan.”
Show Notes
- Lots of people have talked about this idea of giving, as it relates to getting what you want in life.
- “The secret of living is giving.” ~ Anthony Robbins
- “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill
- “You can have everything in life you want, if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziglar
How to design your life in two simple steps:
In order to get the very best results from this two-step process, you’ve really got to know yourself. You’ve got to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses.
Step 1 – Decide what you want to give.
How can you help others get what they want (health, wealth, and prosperity, etc.) in your own special way. What can you do better than most? What talents and gifts do you possess that you can employ to serve others? A great tool for discovering this is the ikigai.
Step 2 – Decide what you want to receive.
The only caveat here is to be sure you really want the things you think you want. Often times we adopt things, conditions, and circumstances that others want (a.k.a conformity) because we haven’t taken the time to do some serious self-introspection and decide what we really want. So keep this in mind.
Both steps are based on value — giving it and receiving it.
To put this idea into practice, you may want to divide your vision board in half. With one half dedicated to what you want to give in life, and the other to what you want to receive.
One Sentence Summary:
The simplest and surest way to design and live an extraordinary life is to focus on two things; what you want to give and what you want to receive.
